Atlantic Video 44, Express 1
Team Video 24, Express 1
As everyone probably knows by now, Express made MMSL history this past week — the largest blowout ever in the league, and, yes, we were on the wrong end of 44-1. But hey, only the second week of the season, and already Express is the talk of the league, eh?
We lost the other game, too, but defense showed tons of improvement in the second contest. Overall, turnout was slightly less than spectacular, in that everyone who came played both games, even Andy, whose upper leg looked like someone had surgically implanted a grapefruit into it. First, recognition goes to:
Andy, of course, for putting Curt Schilling’s bloody ankle to shame his courageous torn-hamstring shuffle, stellar pitching and waking up the opposition’s outfield with solid hits every time.
Aimee, who got a hit in her first at-bat, scored the first game’s only run, and had three—count ‘em, three—defensive assists at 2B in her first game. It won’t be her last at second.
Lynn, for running down many a line-drive in the highly-active left field position, then holding down the fort behind the plate.
Andrea, who put on a clinic in right field with acrobatic, sacrifice-the-body diving catch after diving catch.
Jess, who had a great day on the mound in the first game. Seriously. I told her, “Just give them pitches they can hit,” and she did exactly that. For a team that was actively waiting on each pitch, we had very, very few walks. Kudos!
Kristen, for holding down our infield defense at shortstop. Textbook!
Chip, for playing hurt.
John, for playing hurt.
Matt, for not getting hurt.
